How to Change Google Assistant Voice: A Comprehensive Guide

Google Assistant is a versatile and intelligent personal assistant that can significantly enhance your experience with Google devices. One of its standout features is the customizable voice option. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to change Google Assistant voice on both mobile devices and web browsers.

Changing Google Assistant Voice on Mobile Devices

The process of changing the Google Assistant voice is generally straightforward and can be done through the Google Assistant app. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

For Android and iOS Devices

Open the Google Assistant app on your device. Tap on your Profile Picture or the Initials in the top right corner to access the settings. Select Assistant settings. Tap on Voice or Assistant Voice. The exact wording may vary depending on your device and app version. You will see a list of available voices. Tap on each one to hear a preview. Once you find a voice you like, select it to set it as your default.

Note: The process may vary slightly depending on your device and app version, but the general steps remain similar.

Changing Google Assistant Voice on Web Browsers

If you prefer to change the Google Assistant voice on a web browser, follow these steps:

Open your web browser and go to Google. In the search bar at the top of the page, type I never tried to change on any phone but I have modified my assistant. Go to settings and then accessibility and that is where you can change stuff on your assistant. Navigate to your assistant settings and find the accessibility options. Look for the option to change your assistant's voice. Note: You will need to have the Google Home app downloaded to your phone or device and logged into the account for your Google Home devices, typically a Gmail address.

Update Your Google Assistant to Latest Version

The number of voice options for Google Assistant has increased significantly over the years. Initially, Google Assistant had only 2 voices, 1 female and 1 male. However, after the I/O 2018 conference, Google introduced 6 additional voices, bringing the total to 4 female and 4 male voices. To make the most of these options, ensure that your Google Assistant is updated to the latest version. Here are the steps to do so:

Updating Google Assistant on Mobile Devices

Open the Google Assistant app on your device. Go to the Explore mode by clicking the BLUE round icon in the top right corner. Click the 3 dots in the top right corner and select settings. Navigate to PREFERENCES - ASSISTANT VOICE. Here, you will find 8 voice options labeled as Voice 1, Voice 2, etc.. Voice 1-3-5-7 are female voices, and Voice 2-4-6-8 are male voices. Select the voice that suits your preference and exit.
