In the realm of symphonies, the prolific Haydn wrote 104 of them. It can be challenging to pick favorites from such an extensive catalog, but I would highly suggest listening to Mozart's last three symphonies. They offer a glimpse into where he was headed had he lived longer. Other greats in this genre include Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, and Mahler. While I have always avoided Mahler's Symphony No. 8 due to its sensory overload, the rest offer a profound and enriching listening experience.

Operas and Puccini

If you're a fan of Mozart, you're likely to enjoy Puccini's operas as well. La Bohème is a great starting point, with its moving plot, memorable arias, and evocative music. For those who enjoy the grandeur and drama of Verdi and Wagner, Puccini's works like Turandot are splendid. In Turandot, you'll find the most beautiful tenor aria in the repertoire: "Nessun Dorma."

In the realm of operas, Mozart's works are truly exceptional. From La Finta Giardiniera to Turandot, and including his numerous piano concertos, the many string quartets, his violin and horn concertos, his flute concertos, his sinfonie concertante, his piano sonatas, and his symphonies and divertimenti, there is something for every music lover. His chamber music, including duos, trios, quartets, and quintets, and his sacred music, such as Masses, motets, Requiem, and oratorios like The Creation and The Seasons, are all worthy of exploration.

Other notable composers include Franz Joseph Haydn, who wrote 104 symphonies, as well as numerous string quartets, Masses, and oratorios like The Creation. His brother, Johann Michael Haydn, was also an excellent composer, known for his symphonies, chamber music, and his splendid Requiem in C minor. Additionally, the enchanting opera L’Elisir d’Amore by Gaetano Donizetti is a delightful choice, as are the comic operas by Gioachino Rossini, such as Il Barbiere di Siviglia, L’Italiana in Algieri, and La Cenerentola.
